Bodies of government affiliates found in Syria’s Suwayda
SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, residents of Suwayda, governorate south Syria, found bodies of six members of an armed militia affiliated with Military Intelligence Division of Syrian government forces near the al-Mashnaqa Roundabout in the city center.
Since July 23, Suwayda has been witnessing a state of unrest amid continuous protests against violations committed by armed groups affiliated to the government’s Military Intelligence.
The bodies belonged to members of al-Fajr Movement led by Raji Falhout and affiliated with the Military Intelligence Division, an eyewitness told North Press.
“The bodies belonged to Salman Rizk, Raed Kamal al-Din, Mazen Abu Zaidan, Kinan Abu Fakher, Shadi Abu Fakher, and Ammar al-Harfoush, who were captured by residents and local factions on July 27 after raiding a number of headquarters of the movement.
On Wednesday, local armed factions in Suwayda led by the Men of Dignity took control of the last headquarters of the government militia led by Falhout in the cities of Atil and Salim.
The Men of Dignity is a self-defense militia established after the outbreak of the Syrian war to defend the Suwayda area. Described as a terror organization by Russia, it took an initial position against the Syrian government in the early days of the war but did not engage in any armed conflict with government forces.
Suwayda is still witnessing a state of alert following the elimination of the armed group, amid complete absence of the government’s security service.
