QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, Duesseldorf state court in Germany, sentenced a German women for three years and a half in prison over charges of joining the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) in Syria.
Verena M., whose surname was not released for privacy reasons, was convicted of membership in a foreign terrorist organization and abduction of a minor, among other charges, according to the court.
In 2015, the defendant traveled to Syria with her 5-year-old son, whom she brought up on the ISIS ideology, against his father’s will.
She got married to another man, who fought with the ISIS, and she gave birth to two other children.
In 2019, she was captured by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
In 2021, she and her three children were repatriated from Syria’s northeast.
In February, federal prosecutors in Germany also accused her of leaving Germany for Turkey with her son against the father’s wishes and of possessing two assault rifles.
