Syrian Government Keeps Sending Reinforcements to Syria’s Manbij
MANBIJ, Syria (North Press) – Military reinforcements of Syrian government forces arrived Saturday in the countryside of Manbij through al-Tayha crossing, southwest of the city of Manbij in northern Syria.
Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has recently announced plans to carry out another major military cross-border incursion into northern Syria. Erdogan specified his targets in the two northern Syrian cities of Manbij and Tel Rifaat.
An eyewitness said that six buses carrying about 300 Syrian government soldiers entered from al-Tayha crossing and headed towards the frontlines in Manbij.
After the buses, the area witnessed the arrival of six tanks carried on trucks, accompanied by a helicopter.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Mazloum Abdi said in a press conference on Friday, “We accepted the Syrian Army to reinforce its posts in Kobani, Manbij and border areas in order to carry out its task in protecting the Syrian border, and we will do what is needed to avoid war against our areas.”
The reinforcements are part of recent understandings between the SDF and Syrian government under a Russian auspices. The understandings involve deploying government forces along the frontlines extending from the village of al-Hoshariya, northeast of Manbij, to the Arima town, west of Manbij.
On July 12, the government and Russian forces brought in military reinforcements to the village of al-Thiyabat, north of Manbij.
The Russian forces also established military posts in the village of al-Hussan, northeast of Manbij, near the contact lines in al-Hoshariya.
