Government finds weapons warehouse of ISIS in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Syrian government forces found on Tuesday warehouse of weapons and ammunition, belonging to the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) in the town of Dweir, 80 km east of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.
A military source in the Syrian government forces said that unites of the 4th Armored Division of the Syrian government forces and military engineering found a warehouse contained large quantities of weapons and ammunition, which belonged to the ISIS, in a small room under the ground and covered with plastics.
The source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the warehouse contained Kalashnikovs, PKCs, hand grenades, ammunition for machineguns, mortars, materials for manufacturing explosives, and banners bearing the organization’s logo.
The source said that the operation based on confessions of an ISIS detainee arrested by the government forces.
Two days ago, the government forces launched a combing campaign in the desert of Deir ez-Zor, Sukhna and Palmyra which is the fifth this year, due to increasing attacks by ISIS militants who use al-Badia as a hideout.
The Iranian-backed militias control vast swaths of the countryside of Deir ez-Zor and Syria’s Badia that recently witnessed several battles between the Iranian-backed militants and ISIS.
On July 4, unidentified gunmen killed a member of the government forces in an attack with machineguns on their posts in the town of al-Abbas, east of Deir ez-Zor.
