Unidentified attackers kill footballer in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, unidentified gunmen shot dead an individual in a town east of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.
A military source of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the town of Hawaij, 45 kilometers east of Deir ez-Zor, said that unidentified armed men, who were riding a motorcycle, raided a football pitch in the town and shot dead a footballer who was playing in the pitch, killing him immediately.
The attackers targeted the 30-year-old footballer Ala’ al-Hamoud, who hails from the town of Deban east of Deir ez-Zor.
The source told North Press Agency, citing eyewitnesses, who were nearby the site, that the attackers were raising banners of the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) and they placed them on the body of al-Hamoud.
They also shouted slogans of ISIS and threatened other footballers and ordered them not to move or resist before they managed to flee, according to the source.
Recently, the countryside of Deir ez-Zor has witnessed an increase in killing cases carried out against the SDF fighters, tribal leaders, civilians, and employees of the Autonomous Administration though the SDF carries out intensive security operations.
On Monday, two SDF fighters lost their lives in an armed attack by unidentified individuals, who targeted the SDF post in the town of Az-Zir east of Deir ez-Zor.
