Turkish forces shell NE Syria’s Tel Tamr
TEL TAMR, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, Turkish forces and their affiliated armed opposition factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), shelled villages in north of Hasakah, northeast Syria, with heavy weapons.
“The Turkish forces shelled the two villages of al-Tawila and al-Gozaliya, west of Tel Tamr with mortar shells,” said a source of Tel Tamr Military Council, affiliated with Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
The shelling came after weeks of calmness the Tel Tamr countryside witnessed.
Tel Tamr, which has a population of about 25,000 and is 30 km away from the Syrian-Turkish border, is of strategic importance as it is a junction on the M4 Highway linking the Jazira region in northeast Syria to Aleppo governorate in northwest.
In addition to the Tel Tamr Military Council and the Syrian government-backed pointes, there are Turkish, Russian and American forces in the vicinity of the town.
