Government soldier killed, three others wounded in Syria’s Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, a soldier of the Syrian government forces was killed and three others were wounded in an attack by unidentified armed individuals in the eastern countryside of Daraa, a governorate south Syria.
Local sources told North Press, “Adham Ahmad al-Hariri, a member in Eighth Brigade that is affiliated with the Military Security branch of the government forces, was killed and three others were wounded in an attack by unknown individuals.”
“The attackers fired on a car that was picking up the government soldiers on a route that links between the towns of al-Musayfrah and Eastern Ghariyah in the eastern countryside of Daraa, according to the sources.
Al-Hariri and the wounded soldiers, who hail from the village of Sourah east of Daraa, work within a military group affiliated with the Eighth Brigade lead by Ali Mustafa, the sources added.
After the settlement process in Daraa ended in late August 2018, a race to recruit young people started by the security branches of the government forces in order to fully impose their control over the south and ensure that these young men did not go to the formations of the Fifth Corps, which receives its support and orders directly from Russia.
The Eighth Brigade was established on the ruins of the Shabab al-Sunna faction headed by Ahmad al-Awda of the Syrian opposition during its control of southern Syria.
The Eighth Brigade has been assigned by Russia for several missions over the past years, the first of which was in Yarmouk Basin area and hunting down the remnants of the Islamic State Organization (ISIS).
