Unknown gunmen kill government forces’ member in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unidentified gunmen killed on Monday a member of the government forces in an attack with machine guns on their posts in the town of al-Abbas, east of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
“Unidentified gunmen attacked with automatic weapons a post of the Fourth Division of the government forces in the center of the town of al-Abbas in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor,” a military source from the Fourth Division told North Press.
The source, who preferred not to be named, added that the attack resulted in the killing of a conscript member of the government forces.
According to the source, the attack was followed by sporadic clashes between the attackers and the mobile patrols of the government forces. The attackers were able to flee towards the desert.
The Iranian-backed militias along with the Syrian government forces run vast swaths of the Syrian Desert as well as the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, where the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) conducted many attacks.
Two days ago, three members of the pro-Iranian Fatemiyoun Brigade were killed and four others were wounded, in an armed attack targeting a military convoy in the Sukhna desert, east of Homs.
