Unknown attack kills, injures 7 militants of Iranian militias

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unknown gunmen attacked on Saturday an Iranian-backed militia in Syria’s Badia, killing three militants and injuring four.

A military source of Syrian government forces said that unknown gunmen, who were driving a vehicle, attacked a convoy of the Iranian-backed Liwa Fatemiyoun in Sukhnah countryside, eastern Syria, with machine guns.

The source, who preferred not to be named, added that the attack resulted in the killing of three militants, including an Afghani, and the injury of four others.

The military convoy of the Liwa Fatemiyoun was heading towards Sukhnah countryside to start a combing campaign to pursue ISIS sleeper cells, according to the source.

The Iranian-backed militias and the government forces have been running vast swathes of the Syrian Badia as well as the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor since 2017 following the expulsion of the Islamic State Organization (ISIS).

The Syrian Badia region is a source of concern for the Iranian-backed militias and the government forces, where ISIS sleeper cells are launching operations that inflict heavy losses on the forces and factions, despite the intensive security campaigns to comb the Badia.
