Turkish forces fire shells at Aleppo northern countryside

ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – Turkish forces and affiliated armed opposition factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), shelled on Saturday villages in the northern countryside of Aleppo Governorate.

The Turkish forces and the SNA factions targeted the two villages of Umm Qura and Hasajek in Aleppo northern countryside, also known as Shahba region, with artillery shells, an eyewitness told North Press.

The northern countryside of Aleppo (Shahba region) houses the displaced people of Afrin who fled their homes following the Turkish invasion under the name of “Olive Branch” operation in 2018.

The Turkish military operation on Afrin led to the displacement of approximately 300.000 of the original inhabitants, where part of them have settled in the camps of al-Awda, Afrin, Barkhodan, Sardam and Shahba, and another part has been distributed among 42 villages and towns in Shahba region, while some moved towards cities in northeastern Syria, and others immigrated abroad.

The shelling was carried out from the Turkish military post in the town of Marea, north of Aleppo, according to the eyewitness.

The villages of Shahba region are witnessing a Turkish military escalation, as they are bombed almost daily.

On June 30, the Turkish forces and their affiliated SNA factions shelled the village of Kafr Qares which caused a state of panic among the residents.
