Syria’s Darra continues witnessing killing operations
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Daraa Governorate in southern Syria continues to witness ongoing killing operations by unknown gunmen without being claimed by any party.
Chaos and instability has become the main scene in the governorate since Syrian government forces entered it in 2018 due to the increasing murders and robbery.
On June 15, Muhammad Ibrahim al-Rabdawi, a leader of an opposition faction, was killed by unknown gunmen on the road between the town of Ibtta and Sheikh Maskin in the northern countryside of Daraa.
Al-Rabdawi was one of six people whom the government wanted to deport them to northern Syria a year ago, local sources told North Press.
On the same day, local sources said that a leader of the government forces, called Ayman Rizq al-Zou’bi, known as Abu Jarrah, was killed by unknown gunmen in the town of Giza in the eastern countryside of Daraa,
“Al-Zou’bi was a former opposition member, but he reconciled with the government forces after reigning Daraa Governorate in 2018. After that he joined the Military Security Branch of the government forces and led a military formation,” the sources added.
In September 2021, a number of Daraa’s notables and government forces, in the presence of Russian officers, reached a ceasefire agreement, including handing over weapons to the government and deploying governmental security points in the towns of Daraa governorate.
The agreement came after an 80-day siege imposed by the government forces on the towns of the government.
Also, unidentified attackers targeted al-Bahar checkpoint in the southern side of Daraa al-Balad city with an RPG-7, leading to violent clashes between the two sides that lasted for more than an hour.
A day before, two young men were murdered by unknown gunmen. They were previous militants in the opposition factions.
On June 13, unidentified attackers opened fire on three men in the northern countryside of Daraa, which led to the killing of all of them.
According to sources, one of the murdered men was a soldier of the government forces.
On June 12, a civilian was killed by unknown attackers in a camp in Daraa governorate. The residents accused government forces of killing the man, because he threatened them several times after they killed his 15-years-old son.
One the same day, local sources told North Press that Zuhair Youssef al-Hariri, first warrant officer in Syrian government forces, was shot to death by unknown persons in the town of Alma in the eastern countryside of Daraa.
One the same day, a landmine explosion left by the government forces killed 13 wheat-harvesting workers in the town of Deir al-Adas in northern Daraa governorate.
According to a source, seven women and six men were killed immediately, while about 30 others sustained various injuries.
