Syrian refugees in camp in Turkey protest against their deportation

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Syrian men in a camp in south Turkey staged on Wednesday night an angry protest after being detained in the camp for the purpose of deporting them back to Syria.

Footage circulated by some activists on social media showed Turkish police intervening to disperse the protest.

The protest came after some Syrian young men tried to escape the camp. The camp includes approximately 1,500 people brought from various Turkish states for the purpose of deporting them to Syria.

On May 6, Turkey’s Minister of Interior Suleiman Soylu said that Turkey has prepared 13 projects, including the construction of 250,000 homes in areas occupied by Turkey and the Turkish-backed Syrian opposition factions in Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), Tel Abyad, Jarablus and al-Bab.

The minister said the Syrian refugee has the right to benefit from these houses for about ten years.

His comments came after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced May 3 a plan by his government that would allow the “voluntary return” of one million Syrian refugees from Turkey to northern Syria.”
