Turkish threats undermine chances of solving Syrian crisis
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Autonomous Administration of Jazira region said, in a statement on Monday, “Turkish threats undermine chances and initiatives of finding solutions for the Syrian crisis, and efforts to defeat the Islamic State Organization (ISIS).
The statement was made in headquarters of the Executive Council of the administration in response to the Turkish threats to invade new Syrian areas.
The Autonomous Administration for Jazira region is an administrative division that includes the areas of Qamishli, Hasakah and Derik (al-Malikiyah). It is affiliated with the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).
The AANES was first formed in 2014 in the Kurdish-majority regions of Afrin, Kobani and Jazira in northern Syria following the withdrawal of the government forces. Later, it was expanded to Manbij, Tabqa, Raqqa, Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor after the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) defeated ISIS militarily.
The Autonomous Administration of Jazira region called on “international community, the US-led Global Coalition and Russia to assume their responsibilities towards the Turkish military escalation and never allowing Turkey to commit more massacres against the people of the region.”
“The Turkish state is exploiting international conflicts and conditions and the Russian-Ukrainian war to distract the world’s attention from domestic crises inside Turkey,” the statement read.
The Turkish escalation “is a powerful incentive for the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) to reorganize its ranks, as a result it will pose a threat to the region and the entire world,” the statement stressed.
