Residents of Syria’s Aleppo protest against Turkish threats
ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, hundreds of protesters of the town of Tel Rifaat and its villages in the northern countryside of Aleppo Governorate demanded Turkey to leave the Syrian territories it occupies.
This came during a protest to reject the recent Turkish threats to launch a military operation in northern Syria.
In their speeches, the protesters indicated that they are standing together against the Turkish threats and stressed the idea of the unity of the Syrian territory.
A group of political and security leaders in Tel Rifaat and many employees of government and civil institutions participated in the protest, in addition to residents of Aleppo, according to eyewitnesses in the area.
This protest came as a reaction to the recent Turkish threats.
On June 1, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan renewed his threats of launching a military operation on northern Syria, and specified his targets in the two Syrian cities of Manbij and Tel Rifaat, which include many Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
Earlier, Syrian government sent military reinforcements to Menagh Military Airport in the northern countryside of Aleppo, in preparation to confront any possible military operation, according to what North Press monitored.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said on June 9 in an interview with RT TV. “If there is a Turkish invasion, there will be popular resistance in the first stage.”
“The confrontation will be the same according to what the military capabilities allow,” al-Assad added.
