Eight killed, 30 wounded in landmine blast in Syria’s Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – A landmine exploded on Saturday in the northern countryside of Daraa governorate, south of Syria, killing eight people and injuring about 30 others.
Explosive remnants of war (ERW), left by military conflicts between Syrian government forces and opposition factions in areas in Daraa, pose a threat to residents’ lives, amid lack of Awareness-raising campaigns on how to deal with them.
Eyewitnesses told North Press that the landmine exploded in a car, carrying workers in agricultural field, near the village of Deir al-Adas in the northern countryside of Daraa.
As a result, eight people were killed and about 30 others were wounded, who were taken to the National Hospital in the city of al-Sanamayn in the northern countryside of Daraa.
The death toll is likely to rise due to the critical condition of some of the injured people, the witnesses said citing a medical source in the hospital as saying.
On May 23, three siblings were injured in another landmine explosion, while playing with it in the town of Inkhil in the northern countryside of Daraa.
