Bar Association of Euphrates region condemns Turkish threats to northern Syria
KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – The Euphrates Bar Association denounced on Thursday Turkish threats to launch a military operation in northern Syria. It also condemned Turkey’s attempts to impede regional and international attempts to establish stability in the region.
On May 23, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Turkey is preparing for a new military operation in northern Syria to establish a 30-km deep safe zone along its southern border.
In a statement to the public opinion, the Bar Association said that” Turkey is seeking through the establishment of a safe area to build settlements to return refugees to penetrate into the areas of northern Syria and invade new areas of Syria.”
On May 3, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced about the project, claiming to settle about one million Syria refugees in 13 areas in the Syrian north, which Erdogan named Safe Zone.
“What is happening in the areas controlled by Turkey in northern Syria, such as Tel Abyad and Sere Kaniye, is evidence of what Turkey means by the safe zone. Those areas have been turned into hotbeds of terrorism,” the statement added.
The statement warned that Turkish practices in the region will contribute to the revival of ISIS cells and exposing the region to the risk of its return. This is what Turkey seeks to achieve its political interests.
The statement called on the international community and the United Nations to take a deterrent attitude towards the Turkish threats and inhumane practices committed in the areas of northern Syria.
