Armenian Council condemns Turkish attacks on NE Syria

HASKAH, Syria (North Press) – The Armenian Social Council condemned on Monday the Turkish ongoing attacks on northeast Syria, calling on the active countries to intervene and stop these attacks.

Imad Tatrian, co-chair of the Armenian Social Council in al-Hasakah, told North Press that the Turkish attacks target all the communities of the region; Kurds, Arabs, and Christians.

“We, in the Armenian Social Council, condemn the Turkish attacks, especially on the towns of Zarkan and Tel Tamr, and the targeting of churches,” he added.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on May 23 that Turkey would launch a new military operation across its southern borders with Syria to create a safe zone.

“Turkey seeks to control more Syrian areas, destabilize the security and revive the ISIS cells,” he said.

“Turkey is working to displace the region’s population and create the demographic change, as it is doing in Afrin, Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad,” Tatrian said.

On Thursday, Turkey’s Interior Minister Suleiman Soylu revealed his country’s intention to build about 250,000 homes in northern Syria, as part of a plan to return Syrian refugees.

The Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was quoted on Tuesday as saying, “we are preparing a new project for the voluntary return of one million Syrian bro brothers who are in our country as guests.”

“We call on the guarantor countries to intervene and stop the Turkish attacks and stand by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the communities of northeast Syria,” Tatrian said.
