QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Russian helicopters conducted on Saturday a reconnaissance mission along the border strip between Syria and Turkey in northeast Syria.
A military source told North Press that six Russian helicopters set off from Qamishli International Airport in northeast Syria, and “hovered over the border strip with Turkey in a reconnaissance mission,” without disclosing its objectives.
The mission followed a Turkish military escalation on the frontlines with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
On Friday, the Turkish forces and their affiliated armed opposition factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), targeted the town of Abu Rasin, north of Hasakah Governorate in northeastern Syria with more than 320 shells.
The Russian helicopters are scheduled to reach Ain Diwar in Derik in the far northeast Syria and then return to the set off point, according to the source.
The Syrian government and the SDF accompanied by Russian helicopters conducted on Friday a joint patrol in the countryside of Derbasiyah along Syria-Turkey border, according the pro-government al-Watan newspaper.
