QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Media Center of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said on Wednesday that international guarantor forces roamed areas in northeast Syria in coordination with the SDF.
In a statement, the SDF said, “Routine ground and air movements in Ain Issa and Kobane conducted by the international guarantor forces and in coordination with our SDF.”
This came following a statement by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to launch a new invasion of areas in northeast Syria.
“We will soon take new steps regarding the incomplete portions of the project we started on the 30-km deep safe zone we established along our southern border,” Erdogan said on May 23.
Turkish forces and their affiliated Syrian National Army (SNA) frequently shell both regions of Kobani and Ain Issa. The shelling always leaves casualties and material damage to the properties of the civilians.
The SDF statement read that these movements came in the framework of “maintaining stability and adhering to the de-escalation agreement against any possible Turkish escalation.”
Following Turkish invasion of the two cities of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad in October 2019, Turkey signed two ceasefire agreements, one with Russia and the other with the US stipulating ceasing all hostilities and the withdrawal of the SDF 32 km away from the Turkish border.
The SDF did withdrew from the border areas according to the agreement, but Turkey continues targeting the area before the eyes of Russian and the US which are the guarantors of the agreement.
The SDF called on the international guarantors to “activate more deterrent field mechanisms against the Turkish aggression.”
