SDC president demands US, Russia stop Turkish attacks on northeast Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The president of the Executive Committee of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), Ilham Ahmed, demanded on Monday the guarantors of the ceasefire agreement stop the Turkish attacks on the residents of the town of Tel Tamr and its countryside in northeast Syria.
On Sunday, three people were injured in the Turkish shelling of the villages located on the front lines in the countryside of Tel Tamer town.
“The Turkish attack on the multicultural region of Tel Tamr, which is inhabited by Kurds, Arabs and Assyrians, is a continuation of the genocidal approach against our people,” Ahmad tweeted.
“These attacks need to be stopped especially by the states that guaranteed the ceasefire agreement,” she added.
Following the Turkish “Peace Spring” military operation in October 2019, which resulted in the occupation of the two cities of Tel Abyad, north of Raqqa, and Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), north of Hasakah, Turkey signed two ceasefire agreements, one with Russia and the other with the US.
The agreements stipulate halt of all hostilities there and the withdrawal of the SDF 30 km in depth away from the Turkish border in addition to conducting Turkish-Russian joint patrols in order to monitor the implementation of the agreements.
On Sunday morning, the Turkish forces bombed the villages of Tel Juma’a, Tel Shanan, al-Ghebish and the power substation, in the countryside of Tel Tamr.
