HTS announces killing, wounding of government soldiers north of Syria’s Latakia

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Two soldiers of the Syrian government forces were killed on Friday and others were wounded in an infiltration by a member of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front) north of Latakia.

A member of Katibat al Tawhid wal Jihad, affiliated with HTS, conducted a “qualitative operation” against the government positions in north of Latakia governorate, military sources close to the HTS told North Press.

In March, the US Department of State designated Katibat al Tawhid wal Jihad as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT), and it also was added to the UNSC ISIS and Al-Qaida Sanctions List.

The infiltrator sneaked in to the government-held areas near frontlines. He managed to kill an officer and a soldier, in addition to wounding others.

As a result, clashes erupted between the infiltrator and the government forces that caused the killing of the infiltrator, the sources added.

Many websites close to the HTS mourned the death of the infiltrator Ahmad Abdullah al-Obaid al-Jarba, known as Abu Obaida who hailed from the city of Safira in the southern countryside of Aleppo governorate.

Meanwhile, none of the government media outlets announced about any wounded among the government soldiers.

Some pro-government websites mourned the death of a soldier in the countryside of Latakia and publicized news about the wounding of others.

Some others talked about thwarting the infiltration and denied reports of wounded.

Areas in the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria witness increase in the military operations and mutual bombardment between the government forces and the Syrian opposition factions.
