Unknown gunmen kill opposition faction leader in Syria’s Afrin

ALEPPO NORTHERN  COUNTRYSIDE, Syria (North Press) – Succumbing to the injuries he sustained late last night, a leader of the pro-Turkish Hamza faction died on Wednesday after being shot in the city of Afrin, north of Aleppo.

“The leader Abdulhay, known as Abu Hudhayfa,  was shot yesterday by unknown gunmen on Afrin-Trinda road. He was transported to the Military Hospital in Afrin and died there,” a special source told North Press.

In March 2018, Turkish military and its affiliated SNA occupied the city of Afrin and its countryside following a two-month fierce battle with the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), displacing about 300,000 Kurdish civilians.

However, Afrin and its countryside frequently witness killings of the opposition faction leaders, amid a state of security chaos and the factions’ inability to settle the security there.
