ISIS Claims Responsibility for attacks on SDF in Syria’s Deir Ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – ISIS claimed on Tuesday the responsibility for three previous attacks on the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
ISIS has claimed 15 attacks on the SDF members and residents in Deir ez-Zor since April 18.
ISIS’ Amaq News Agency published a statement on Monday yesterday saying that ISIS members attacked an SDF patrol in the town of Thiban, 50 km east of Deir ez-Zor, resulting in deaths and damage to the vehicle.
In a statement to North Press, a military source in the SDF denied any casualties among its members in the aforementioned attack.
According to Amaq, ISIS members targeted an SDF patrol on the outskirts of the town, resulting in the killing of a member in his car.
The ISIS new spokesman, Abu-Omar al-Muhajir, threatened,
On April 18, in an audio message, to launch more attacks in the region and take revenge over the death the two ISIS leaders Abu Ibrahim al-Qurashi and the group’s former spokesman.
Abu-Omar al-Muhajir, also called on supporters to resume attacks in Europe, taking advantage of the “available opportunity” of “the crusaders fighting each other” — in reference to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
In the audio record, al-Muhajir vowed revenge for killing of emirs, imams and prominent leaders of ISIS in a campaign he called “Vengeance for the Two Sheikhs”.
He noted that ISIS would always work to release prisoners from Hawl Camp including women and ISIS prisoners because “it is a priority and the highest goal for the group and it needs time and patience.”
Despite the intensive security campaigns launched by SDF and the US-led Global Coalition, the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor has been recently witnessing increasing activities by ISIS sleeper cells in the region.
