Turkish drone targets village in Syria’s Manbij

MANBIJ, Syria (North Press) – A Turkish drone fired three shells last night near a village north of Manbij in north Syria.

The drone came from a Turkish base near the Aoun Dadat region north of Manbij and targeted an area in the vicinity of al-Mehsenly village, a military source from Manbij Military Council told North Press.

No casualties or material losses were reported because the shells fell on empty lands, according to the source.

The Manbij Military Council is a coalition of armed forces affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The city of Manbij and its surrounding areas in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, north Syria, were liberated from ISIS in 2016 by the SDF.

The city is of great importance because of Tayha crossing, which links areas held by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) with those held by the Syrian government.

Manbij is also the location of Aoun Dadat crossing, which links AANES-held areas with opposition-held areas in the Jarablus region along the Turkish border.

Turkish shelling continues to target residential areas near frontlines between the Manbij Military Council and Turkish-backed armed factions.

On April 23, the Turkish forces hit the villages of Aoun Dadat, which is north of Manbij, and Sayyada, which lies to the city’s northwest, with over 20 shells. However, no casualties or material losses have been reported due to the shelling.
