Exploiting international attitude, Turkey escalates bombing NE Syria: Activist

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, a member of the Syrian Constitutional Committee said that the decline in interest in the Syrian issue has allowed some regional countries to escalate their attacks on some Syrian areas.

The Turkish forces have recently escalated their attacks on all areas of northeast Syria, the last of which was bombing the center of the city of Kobani and other areas in the countryside of Raqqa and Hasakah on Friday.

The Turkish government is escalating its attacks on some areas to displace their residents and pass its projects, Samira Moubayed, a member of the Constitutional Committee for the civil society, told North Press.

“The decline in international interest in the Syrian issue regarding the priorities of political action on the global arena has allowed some regional countries, on the top Turkey, to be able to increase their influence on the Syrian arena,” according to Moubayed.

The recent Turkish escalation reveals that Turkey has political projects and trade-offs that it wants to implement through permanent military escalation, she added.

Moubayed considered that the areas out of the Syrian government’s control are subjected to political and military pressures to bring it in line with the Turkish projects in north Syria.

Moubayed said that the Turkish government plus some Arab governments are seeking to form a new group of the Syrian coalition that comes in line with the normalization efforts with the Syrian government.
