Hundreds attend the funeral of SDF-Assyrian fighter in Syria’s Hasakah

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, hundreds of residents of Hasakah and Tel Tamr, northeast Syria, attended the funeral of an Assyrian fighter who had lost life in a Turkish bombardment days ago.

On April 17, Ala’ al-Ahmad, member of the Assyrian Khabour Guards Forces, affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), lost his life in a Turkish bombardment of the village of Tel Shanan in the countryside of Tel Tamr town, north of Hasakah, northeast Syria.

The SDF Media Center said then the bombardment resulted in the loss of a member of the Assyrian Khabour Guard Forces.

The bombardment also caused material damage to the residents’ property.

The residents gathered in the cemetery and chanted slogans condemning the Turkish violations of the ceasefire agreement signed between Turkey and Russian, and Turkey and the US in 2019.

For days, the countryside of Tel Tamr has been hit with heavy weapons by the Turkish military and the affiliated armed opposition factions.

The countryside of Tel Tamr includes about 33 Assyrian villages, 5 of which were almost fully emptied due to the ISIS attacks and their location on the frontlines with the Turkish forces, according to the residents.
