Civil Administration in Syria’s Manbij condemns Turkish attacks on northeast
MANBIJ, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, the Civil Administration in the city of Manbij issued a statement condemning the frequent Turkish bombardment of areas in northeast Syria in general, and Turkey’s intensive bombing of the town of Zarkan and its countryside north of Hasakah in particular.
The statement was read out in front of the Democratic Civil Administration building in Manbij, in the presence of members of the institutions and representatives of political parties in Manbij.
Since the beginning of this year, most villages in the town of Zarkan have witnessed intense Turkish bombardment, leading to a large wave of displacement and the damage to the residents’ property.
“Turkey is committing serious violations in the villages of Zarkan town against the residents through its indiscriminate and intense bombardment,” Siham Hamo, the co-chair of the Legislative Council in Manbij, said.
Hamo condemned the international silence and inaction regarding the Turkish bombing and violation of international agreements that stipulate a ceasefire and keep the population away from killing, destruction and displacement.
In October of 2019, following the invasion of Turkey and the affiliated opposition factions of regions of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad, a ceasefire agreement was signed between the Turkish and Russian presidents.
“The areas of northeast Syria are Syrian territory, and Turkey has no right to interfere in Syrian affairs and occupy some areas under the pretext of protecting its borders,” she said.
In the statement, Hamo called on the guarantor countries, led by the United States of America and Russia, to pressure Turkey to stop its barbaric and frequent bombardment of all areas of northeast Syria.
