Germany arrests Syrian over war crimes

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – German investigators arrested, on Wednesday, a Syrian man, who was a member of the Islamic State Organization (ISIS), over war crimes in Syria against captives.

The arrestee, who was identified as Raed E., was arrested in Berlin over the following charges: membership in a foreign terrorist organization, crimes against humanity, war crimes and bodily harm, according to Federal prosecutors.

Raed E. joined ISIS in the summer of 2014 and he engaged in an attack against  al-Shaitat tribe(al-Shaitat Massacre)  in Deir ez-Zor, east Syria, in 2015.

Although there have not been accurate documentations and statistics of the number of victims so far, the Violations Documentation Center in northern Syria and those well-informed about mass graves estimated the number at about 700.

However, other people from the clan say that it exceeds 1,700 children, women, and men.

Raed E. is accused of abusing and torturing three captives and twice physically abusing a captive during months in captivity.

In addition to working in ISIS prisons, “he handled transactions in which the freedom of al-Shaitat captives was bought and manned two checkpoints for the extremist group,” prosecutors said in a statement.
