Global Coalition finds components of Russian cluster bombs in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A military source in the Global Coalition forces said on Tuesday that one of their patrols found the components of Russian cluster bombs in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor Zor.
“During a routine patrol on March 20,2022, Coalition Forces were directed to an area where they found components of Russian cluster bombs and a barrel possibly labeled chlorine, the source told North Press.
Additionally later that day, Coalition Forces received and properly disposed of 11 submunitions (from cluster bombs, according to the source.
Despite denying its use, the imagery once again shows clear evidence of Russian use of cluster bombs in Syria.
Human Rights Watch documented in December 2015 that cluster munitions were used on at least 20 occasions since Syria and Russia began their joint offensive on September 30.
“Russia is using cluster bombs in Ukraine,” NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said on March 4.
On the ninth of last March, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) found remnants of Russian cluster bombs, in the southern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
