Activists call AANES to legislate child protection law

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – Some civil activists of Raqqa city, northern Syria, called on the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), on Wednesday, to take sensible steps regarding the legislation  of a child protection law.

Yesterday, some civil activists of Raqqa looked into the fallouts of the Syrian war on childhood, and violations that affected children.

The request came during a seminar, which was held by the Child Protection Office in Raqqa in the city’s Culture and Art Center, entitled “Protecting Children against Community Violence”.

The seminar discussed all kinds of community violence against children and ways to mitigate and protect them from such abuses, as well as the negative impact of the war on childhood.

The seminar touched upon the violent behaviors of children caused by the war and the successive extremist eras the city witnessed particularly during the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) reign.

The participants pointed out that the Syrian war has had a notable  role in increasing the violations committed against children.

Amira Hassan, the chairwoman of the Child Protection Office, said that holding community events to alleviate the war impacts on children is really necessary now.

“The Child Protection Office pays great attention to prevent such violations that children are subjected to in Raqqa, and reduce the negative phenomena that harm children,” She told North Press.

One of the key community responsibilities that rests with the stakeholders in Raqqa, and Syria in general, is erasing the war impacts that left an enduring mark on children, she noted.
