SDF showed great dedication to defeating ISIS, CJTFOIR to North Press
WASHINGTON, US (North Press) – The attacks of Hawl Camp in northeast Syria are nothing more than a desperate attempt by the weakened and overmatched remnants of ISIS, a military official for Combined Joint Task Force – Inherent Resolve (CJTFOIR) said Wednesday.
On March 28, the security forces and sleeper cells of ISIS exchanged fire in the fourth sector of the Hawl Camp. It was reported ISIS cells used medium weapons.
“ISIS is militarily defeated and the Coalition remains committed to ensuring our partner forces maintain their enduring defeat,” the official who preferred not to be named added.
“We are advising, assisting and enabling our SDF partners to both monitor and mitigate any attempts at an ISIS resurgence.”
In an exclusive statement to North Press, the CJTFOIR official pointed out that the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) continue to do their best “to safeguard the IDPs and foreign persons within the Hawl Camp,” confirming that the SDF showed great dedication and commitment to defeating ISIS.
“We remain steadfast in our commitment to supporting our partners as they protect their people and work to prevent the reemergence of Daesh.”
He indicated that the Hawl Camp “problem requires more than a military solution in the long term,” adding the situation in the camp “requires the combined action of multi-national and non-governmental agencies.”
“The solution is political and diplomatic, and it’s the responsibility of the international community. Daesh does not recognize international boundaries and maintaining their enduring defeat is a global mission,” the military official told North Press.
“Reducing the numbers of IDPs in Hawl by repatriation would mitigate the risk of ISIS reemergence and would simultaneously improve the living conditions of the remaining IDPs, making them less vulnerable.”
“We remain committed to advising, assisting and enabling the SDF to ensure the enduring defeat is ISIS. We encourage the international community to find an enduring solution for IDPs and detainees and to fight the root causes of ISIS through security and development, especially in NE Syria,” the CJTFOIR official concluded.
