Turkish gendarmeries kill young man in Syria’s Idlib

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – A young man was shot dead by the Turkish border guards (gendarmeries) yesterday while trying to illegally cross into Turkish territory from northwest countryside of Idlib, northwestern Syria.

Youssef Abdelsamie’ al-Ibrahim, 25, was killed while trying to enter Turkish territory near the Harem area close to the Syrian-Turkish border, local sources told North Press.

“The man was an IDP from Talmenes town, south of Idlib, and was in his way to Turkey to find a job opportunity due to the harsh living conditions in Idlib,” the source added.

Having no safe alternatives, most of those who try to enter the Turkish territory resort to risky smuggling routes in order to reunite with their families or find a job opportunity to provide living for them.

Early in February 21, a farmer was deadly shot by the Turkish gendarmeries, while working on his farmland in Salqin town, northwest of Idlib.

There have been many shooting incidents by Turkish border guards at residents, including women and children, in the areas near the Syrian-Turkish border, north of Idlib.

Since the beginning of the Syrian conflict in 2011, 525 Syrians were shot and killed by the Turkish gendarmeries, according to the Violations Documentation Center in Northern Syria.
