Russian-backed faction member killed in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – A doctor working in one of the Russian-backed factions was killed on Tuesday when  an explosive device exploded against his car in the northern countryside of Daraa.

“The doctor, Tha’ir Ziyad al-Balkhi, was killed as a result of the explosion of an explosive device planted in his car by unknown persons while it was in front of his house in the town of Mahja in the northern countryside of Daraa,”  local sources told North Press.

“The doctor worked in the ranks of the Eighth Brigade of the Russian-backed Fifth Corps. He worked in the hospital of the city of Busra al-Sham, the Brigade’s stronghold in the eastern countryside of Daraa,” the sources added.

It is noteworthy that the officers of the Russian forces recruited hundreds of former members of the opposition factions from Daraa in their 8th Brigade, after the  government forces entered the governorate in 2018.
