Syria’s constitutional committee should be corrected, politician
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrians’ opinions are absent in the Constitutional Committee’s work, member of the Syrian Constitutional Committee for the Civil Society said yesterday.
“The decisions within the committee are taken in a blurry manner and are inappropriate to the importance of the track for Syria and the Syrians,” Samira Mubayed, member of the Syrian Constitutional Committee for the Civil Society, told North Press.
On March 25, the 7th round of the Syrian Constitutional Committee ended with no results achieved. The opposition delegation mentioned it would suspend its participation.
The Constitutional Committee has a Large and a Small Body: the Large Body comprises 150 members: 50 members of the government, 50 of the opposition, and 50 of civil society. While the Small Body comprises 45 members: 15 members for each party.
Regarding the civil society delegation, Mubayed added that “the paper, submitted by the civil society, unfolded clearly the adoption of political views far from visions that prioritize the interest of the Syrian people.”
The civil society delegation had offered a paper on the “identity of the state” confirming that the name of the country must stay as it is, i.e. “Syrian Arab Republic” and that Syria is a part and parcel of the Arab region, and the Syrian people are part and parcel of the Arab nation.
Mubayed pointed out that the visions of the civil society does not represent the reality of the communities of the Syrian people. The visions adopt concepts of the former “regime” that imposed tyrannical and comprehensive concepts for decades.
“Personally, I believe that the work of the Syrian Constitutional Committee as such will have no fruitful outcomes. On the contrary, it will affect the importance of the constitutional work in a direct way,” she noted.
She indicated that the political track is supposed to be obvious to put a new Syrian constitution that builds the modern Syria.
“The work of the Syrian Constitutional Committee should be corrected and neutralized from the ideological and armed parties to the conflict. The committee should be put, practically, under the sovereignty of Syria represented in an independent civil leadership,” she concluded.
