Remnant of war claims life of child in Syria’s Hasakah countryside

SHADDADI, Syria (North Press) –  Yesterday, a child lost his life as a landmine of the remnant of war exploded in a village southeast of Shaddadi in the southern countryside of Hasakah.

The 12-year-old Zakariya Fadel al-Hassan lost his life in the explosion of a landmine while he was tending sheep near al-Hajalat village, a local source of the village told North Press.

In 2021, Anti-Mines Roj Organization, a non-profit local organization functions in northeast Syria, announced it removed 35 huge Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) left behind by the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) in the west of Shadadi town, south of Hasakah, northeastern Syria.

“The remnants of war left by ISIS was one ton of explosive ordnance, including four plastic barrels each of which weighed 200 kg,” a source from the organization reported to North Press.
