Turkish-backed faction chops olive trees in Syria’s Afrin countryside.

ALEPPO NORTHERN COUNTRYSIDE, Syria (North Press) –Yesterday, members of the Turkish-backed Jaysh al-Nukhba faction chopped down dozens of olive trees owned by a resident of a village in Rajo district in Afrin countryside, north Syria.

Members of the Jaysh al-Nukhba faction chopped down 60 olive trees owned by Muhammad Musa, a resident of Jaqmaka village, an eyewitness told North Press.

This is not uncommon, as on February 20, the Turkish-backed faction of Sultan Suleiman Shah “Al-Amshat”, chopped down 200 olive trees owned by Qaziqli Suleiman, who lives in Aleppo after he forcibly fled Afrin due the Turkish invasion of the area in 2018.

The opposition factions sell firewood in Afrin markets or export it to Idlib areas, which are controlled by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front), in exchange for huge sums of money that goes to these factions’ leaders’ pockets.
