Thousands of Syrians registered to fight alongside Russia in Ukraine, SOHR

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – More than 40,000 Syrian fighters registered their names in order to fight alongside Russia in its war against Ukraine, Rami Abdurrahman, Director of Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), said on Monday.

On March 10, Washington said recruiting Syrians to participate in the Russian war against Ukraine is a “dangerous escalation” in a time when the Russian troops are besieging the Ukrainian capital Kyiv.

The Russian-Ukrainian war is in its 19th day with Moscow prevailing its power over a number of the eastern towns adjacent to the Russian-Belarusian borders.

“Russia only selects the fighters who have experience in the urban combat and it focuses on the Palestinian Quds Forces and the Regiment 25 led by Suheil al-Hassan,” Abdurrahman said in a voice record message to North Press.

Not everyone who enrolls his name will go to fight Ukraine, according to director of the SOHR director.

He pointed out that there are lower-paid groups that will go to protect the areas controlled by Russia and advanced there in fronts in Ukraine.

“Russia will mainly depend on the Regiment 25 which are special forces with great fighting expertise and trained by Russia.”

Abdurrahman added that the Regiment 25 has strong relations with Russia, they, the Palestinian Quds Forces, and the Palestinian Liberation Army.
