Local sources told North Press that gunmen kidnapped al-Qatami from the front door of his house located in the city center. His fate is still unknown.

Al-Qatami hails from the village of Khirba situated between Suwayda and Daraa cities.

On its official Facebook account, the water institution in Suwayda condemned the abduction of al-Qatami labeling it as a “terrorist” action. The institution called the related authority to hold its responsibilities and return al-Qatami home unharmed.

The governorate of Suwayda suffers a huge water crisis due to lack of fuel. The locals accuses the government of “deliberately” creating this trouble as corruption is rooted inside the state institutions.
