Opposition Syrian National Coalition asks for seat in the UN

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The opposition Syrian National Coalition (SNC) called on the United Nation (UN) to strip the international legitimacy from the Syrian government and expel the government’s representatives from the UN.

The political board of the SNC released a statement calling the international community to grant the Syrian government’s seat at the UN to the SNC given it is the legitimate representative of the Syrian people.

The statement said the officers have made a decision to communicate with the UN to take back Syria’s seat and give it to its real owners.

“Assad’s support to Russia as well as Syria’s vote against the decision that condemns Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in the General Assembly confirms that Bashar al-Assad’s government follows Putin’s,” the statement said.

“Such vote does not represent the Syrian people who stand with the Ukrainian people,” the statement added.

The SNC considered the Syrian government seat in the UN as an “illegitimate matter” and an instant decision should be made as soon as possible.

Assad is not a decision maker and only implements the orders of Putin. This confirms that Syria’s seat in the UN is used for purposes that serve only Assad’s and Russia’s interests, the statement noted.
