Abu Amsha committed war crimes and must be tried, SOHR

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press)  The leader of the Turkish backed- Sultan Suleiman Shah Division, Muhammad al-Jassem, known as, Abu Amsha, committed crimes against humanity by abusing the people of Sheikh al-Hadid, which he turned into a kingdom belonging to him, and he must be brought to trial, Rami Abdulrahman, director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), told North Press.

On February 22, the media outlets circulated a decision to get Abu Amsha out of Afrin region and its countryside, days after a decision was issued to dismiss him and five leaders from their positions within the faction, but the decision was not implemented.

The committee’s decision means depriving Abu Amsha of the various tasks assigned to him, after the lawsuits filed against him, to spare the northern region fighting, but this is not enough, Abdulrahman added.

Last August, the head of the Opposition Coalition honored Abu Amsha, while local pages said that al-Muslat gave Abu Amsha a Medal of Honor.

“We are waiting for the issue to be referred to a just judiciary, not the one controlled by warlords and people living on the tragedies of the Syrians,” Rami Abdulrahman said.

“We do not want exile, we want trial and accountability so that he will be a lesson to the others, and the so-called Abu Amsha should not be satisfied, but all the personalities that the committee decided to dismiss, and most of them committed crimes and violations,” he said.

This decision is only for two years. We do not forget that this faction was accused of committing violations in Afrin, including taking royalties and olive oil from farmers, sharing their crops, seizing land, kidnapping for ransom, looting and committing other humanitarian crimes, he further explained.

Abdulrahman warned of any retaliatory reactions that the Abu Amsha faction might commit against the residents of Afrin, as he knows well that the majority there have filed lawsuits and complaints against him to the aforementioned committee.

“We seek the judicial accountability, not by the people’s committees. It is the judiciary that does justice to all of us and to those who are wrong and guilty should be held accountable.”” he said.
