Former opposition leader killed in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, unknown gunmen deadly shot a former opposition leader who rejected the settlement agreement with the government forces in east Daraa.

“The former opposition leader, Ismail Shukri al-Dar’an, was shot dead by unknown gunmen in the town of al-Maliha al-Sharqiya, in the eastern countryside of Daraa,” a local source told North Press.

“Al-Dar’an came from the town of Nahtah in the eastern countryside of Daraa. His house was raided and burned by the government forces months ago after stealing its contents because of his rejection of the settlement agreement that the government implemented in the cities and towns of the governorate five months ago,” the sources added.

A meeting was held a month ago between al-Dar’an and Russian officers with the aim of hearing his demands and reaching an agreement about reconciliation with the government forces.

Daraa has recently witnessed several killings of former opposition members, who either reconciled with the government forces or rejected reconciliation.
