Unidentified individuals kill young man in Syria’s Suwayda
SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – A young man was killed and his mother was wounded, last night, after he was directly shot by unknown gunmen in the city center of Suwayda, southern Syria.
The 33-year-old Tha’er Abdulkarim al-Halabi was killed after he was directly shot by armed men in front of his shop in the city center, local sources told North Press.
The mother of the young man was also wounded, and they were taken to the National Hospital of the city, where the young man succumbed to his injuries, while his mother is still receiving treatment.
The sources indicated that al-Halabi is a father of two, and he is the only child of his family.
Murders and killing incidents increased in Suwayda, the most recent of which was the killing of Wa’el al-Atrash late last month, a resident of Suwayda.
Early this month, the body of the civilian, Marwan al-Badah, was found dead in a car.
North Press has documented the killing of 12 people since the beginning of the year.
Since early February, residents of Suwayda have been staging widespread peaceful protests and blocking routes in the eastern and western countryside against deteriorating livelihood conditions following the government decision to lift the subsidy for thousands of families.
