Despite settlement, former opposition member was arrested in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – A Syrian government security force arrested a former member of the opposition factions in the town of Nawa, in the western countryside of Daraa, southern Syria, yesterday evening.

Security patrols of the Military Security and Air Force Intelligence Branches raided a number of houses in the town of Nawa and arrested Khaled al-Qiblawi, local sources told North Press.

Al-Qiblawi had joined the opposition factions before the government forces took control of Daraa in 2018, as he did not join the military formations affiliated with the government forces after the reconciliation with the government in the summer of 2018.

On February 8, a security patrol of the Syrian government forces stormed the town of Khirbet Ghazaleh in the eastern countryside of Daraa and arrested Dib al-Zo’bi and four of his children.

In its monthly report released in January, the Martyr Documentation Office, a local non-governmental organization that follows up the statistics of casualties and detainees in Daraa, said arrests and assassinations never halted in Daraa governorate, on the contrary they took place in different parts without determining the party behind them.
