Turkish-held territories turn anti-Syria operation hub: AANES official
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian territories captured by Turkey have turned to be a center where military operations against the region are launched from,Abdulkarim Omar, co-chair of the Department of Foreign Relations of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), said on Sunday on the sidelines of the annual meeting of the AANES Executive Council.
Members of the executive council’s co-chairs and other executive councils in the autonomous and democratic institutions participated in the Sunday meeting.
“The presence of the Islamic State (ISIS) members and members of other terrorist organizations in Turkish-controlled areas in northern Syria have transformed the areas to be central zones to plot to destabilize northeast Syria,” Omar added.
In an exclusive statement to North Press, Omar pointed out that the Turkish role in the recent attack by ISIS on Guweiran prison was pretty clear. Some of the terrorists infiltrated into northeast Syria from Turkish-held areas as well as other Syrian armed opposition factions-held areas.
He stressed that the attack on Guweiran is similar to that on Iraq’s city of Mosul in 2014 when ISIS captured large swaths of Syrian and Iraqi.
The AANES works to increase its diplomatic movement to uncover the strong relationship between Turkey and the terrorist organizations including regrouping, securing lodges for leaders and members of terrorist organizations within Turkish-held areas, according to Omar.
The official believes that finding a solution for thousands of ISIS inmates in detention centers run by the AANES has become a necessary demand and needs mobilization of international efforts.
On January 20, ISIS cell members attacked al-Sina’a prison in the neighborhood of Guweiran in the south of Hasakah city in an attempt to break ISIS detainees out of the prison as declared by the General Command of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
