SDC calls on international community to confront ISIS threat

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) called on all Syrians to stand shoulder to shoulder against the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) attempts to regain control over the Syrian society.

The recent ISIS attack and jailbreak on al-Sina’a prison in Hasakah, northeast Syria, is a serious transformation to hit security and stability in Syria, as well as it is a proof that ISIS has not abandoned the project of the alleged caliphate and gain control over Syrian areas, SDC said.

ISIS benefited from the differences between the conflicting regional parties over Syria, the no-solution policies resulted from Geneva and Astana peace talks, and the hostility of regional powers, led by Turkey, against the project of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES),  SDC added in a statement.

“ISIS also took advantage of the continuous Turkish military attacks on the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), since it can move and operate in the areas occupied by Turkey.”

SDC rejects the Syrian government’s attempts to sow discord among communities, by distorting the facts of al-Sina’a prison events.

SDC warned against the danger of ISIS detainees and their families in camps in northeast Syria calling on the international community to show more sensitivity towards this danger, provide the required support, and find a common solution to the issue of ISIS families in the camps.

It also stressed the importance of taking real and serious steps towards a political solution in Syria based on UN Resolution 2254 in a manner that guarantees fair representation of all Syrians.

SDC condemned the Turkish bombardment on the countryside of Derik, northeast Syria, calling on the Security Council to intervene to put an end to Turkey’s aggressive policies in the region, and on the US-led Global Coalition as well as Russia to assume their responsibilities towards the ceasefire agreements concluded in October 2019.
