Iraqi forces inspect ISIS prisons after attack on Hasakah prison

ERBIL, KRG, Iraq (North Press) – The conter-terrorism apparatus in Iraq announced Sunday the conduct of a large inspection campaign in prisons including Islamic State Organization (ISIS) detainees in several governorates, after the events took place in al-Sina’a prison in Hasakah, northeast Syria. 

The security campaign started in Iraqi prisons on January 22 and went on today January 30.

The campaign was conducted after the latest security developments in the Syria’s Hasakah near Iraqi borders where ISIS members tried to escape al-Sina’a prison, the counter-terrorism apparatus said in a statement. 

On January 20, the ISIS sleeper cells attacked al-Sina’a prison in Guweiran neighborhood in attempt to escape ISIS detainees.

The campaign included several prisons that house ISIS members, the apparatus added. 

The campaign was conducted with participation of the intelligence service which gained information described as “important and accurate” about ISIS sleeper cells. 

The apparatus stressed its determination of encountering “terrorism ideologically and on the ground” until its eliminations.
