ISIS targets journalists near al-Sina’a prison in Syria’s Hasakah
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, journalists were attacked by the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) members, who were near al-Sina’a Prison in the Guweiran neighborhood in Hasakah, northeast Syria.
Jumaa Akkash, Al Arabiya channel correspondent, told North Press that he and a group of journalists were targeted by ISIS members near al-Basel roundabout in Guweiran neighborhood while they were covering the events.
ISIS members moved directly towards the journalists’ crews present near al-Basel roundabout and fired heavily.
Immediately, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) intervened, battled with the attackers, protected the trapped journalists, and transferred them to a safe place, according to Akkash.
The SDF managed to arrest one of the attackers who participated in the targeting the journalists, a security source of Hasakah told North Press.
Akkash stated that the ISIS members did not target the American forces present in the site, which in turn intervened in the clash and left the place before the clashes ended.
