Tribal heads of Syria’s Manbij call for unification against ISIS threat
MANBIJ, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, tribal notables and dignitaries in Manbij, northern Syria, called on all the communities and tribes of north and east Syria to support the efforts of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in fighting the Islamic State (ISIS).
A statement by the tribes read by Muhammad al-Asidi, a spokesman for the notables in Manbij, said that there are attempts to revive ISIS through the recent attacks in Hasakah.
He called on the international community to support the SDF and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) to counter ISIS.
On January 20, ISIS sleeper cells carried out a series of attacks on al-Sina’a prison, where thousands of ISIS members are detained, to escape their ISIS inmates fellows out of the prison.
“We condemn the silence of the countries, which refuse to repatriate their nationals of ISIS members from northeast Syria,” the statement read.
“The region cannot live in constant fear of ISIS re-emergence as its members are still kept in Syria.”
