SDF arrests 100 ISIS members in Syria’s Hasakah, coalition source to North Press
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Special Unites of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) arrested 100 Islamic State Organization (ISIS) members while the SDF stormed al-Sina’a prison in Guweiran neighborhood in Hasakah, northeast Syria, a source of the US-led Global Coalition said, on Monday.
“Those who surrendered and arrested by the SDF where former inmates and tried to escape from the prison while launching the attacks by ISIS sleeper cells on January 20 and during the unrest the area witnessed over the past four days,” the source told North Press.
Since January 20, the surrounding area of al-Sina’a prison have been witnessing intermittent clashes between the SDF and ISIS sleeper cells on the back of the jailbreak they launched in an attempt of mass escape of their fellow inmates from the prison.
The SDF continues to cordon off al-Sina’a prison, which houses thousands of ISIS detainees, with the aim of regaining control over it, in tandem with a combing campaign in Guweiran neighborhood surrounding the prison in search of three ISIS sleeper cells members who carried out an attack three days ago, according the SDF General Command.
Last night experienced ongoing hovering by the US-led Global Coalition aircrafts, which targeted several sites with bullets, but clashes were not so severe like those that continued at noon.
Violent clashes broke out in the surrounding area of the prison on Monday at 10:30 am; However, for over an hour, the area has been witnessing an uneasy calm.
