200 citizens wanted by government in Syria’s Daraa charged with using WhatsApp
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – A Police station run by the Syrian government forces in Syria’s southern governorate of Daraa published a list yesterday containing names of 192 people wanted on charges of subscribing in news group on WhatsApp.
The police station in Tafas city, west of Daraa, has published names of 192 Syrian nationals who face allegations of spreading sedition and libels about the government forces and weakening nationalism through computer networks, a local source told North Press.
Names of the subscribers “members of the group” were learned after the Syrian government forces arrested one of the subscribers in the news group on a checkpoint near Daraa, the source added.
For a while, the Syrian parliament represented in the legislative authorities and constitutional committees have been discussing a new law titled “Anti-Cybercrime Bill” in order to regulate communication on social media.
The Committee Rapporteur Ghada Ibrahim told al-Watan (a pro-government newspaper) that the new legislation toughens criminal penalty related to crimes that undermine the prestige of the state because the state is entitled to maintain its prestige.
